2022 Anthony Award Nominees

To say that the past two years have been a challenge, is like comparing Niagara Falls to a dripping faucet. Yet, there have been a few rays of sunshine that have brightened my day. Finding out that the short story I wrote, The Vermeer Conspiracy, was nominated for an Edgar Award, was definitely a high point. This past week, I got another one of those rays of sunlight when I learned that my short story was also nominated for an Anthony Award. Never heard of the Anthony Awards?

The Anthony is a literary award for mystery writers. It was named after William Anthony Parker White. White, better known by his pen name, Anthony Boucher, was an American author, critic, reviewer, and editor. He wrote classic mysteries, short stories, science fiction, horror, and radio dramas. Boucher was one of the founders of Mystery Writers of America and won one of the first Edgar Awards for his mystery reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle, and later won the HUGO Award for Best Professional Magazine.

The Anthony Award is an annual award which is presented at the Anthony Boucher Memorial World Mystery Convention, or Bouchercon This conference has been held annually since 1970 for “creators and devotees of mystery and detective fiction.” So, I’m thrilled to have been nominated. Having my short story recognized out of the many amazing works of short crime fiction published in 2021, is truly an honor. Check out the list of writers nominated in the full list below. Those are some impressive names. In addition to being amazing writers, many of this year’s nominees are also friends. So, regardless of who walks away with the Anthony, you’ll probably be able to hear me cheering all the way from Minneapolis, Minnesota!
