Death at First Sight by Lena Gregory

It’s been a busy time and I haven’t had a lot of time to read for pleasure. In fact, when I’m under a strict deadline, I severely limit the amount of time that I spend reading for pleasure. Needless to say my To-Be-Read pile is mountainous (just because I don’t get to read books doesn’t mean I stop buying them). So, Death At First Sight by Lena Gregory has been teetering atop my desk for months and I’m happy to say that I finally got a chance to finish this book.

After a seventeen year hiatus, Cass Donvan has returned to her hometown of Bay Island to bury her parents. Needing time to recover from a failed marriage, Cass decides to give up her psychiatric practice and stay in Bay Island to open, a psychic shop, while she rebuilds her life. When Ellie Callahan asks for a reading, Cass experiences an overwhelming feeling of danger which leaves her concerned for Ellie’s safety and well-being. Despite warnings from Ellie’s mother, Marge Hawkins, to stay away from her daughter, Cass feels compelled to warn Ellie she may be in danger. However, before she gets an opportunity to deliver the warning, Marge Hawkins is murdered and Ellie has disappeared. If that isn’t bad enough, Chief of Police, Otis Langdon believes Cass guilty of the murder. It’s up to Cass and her best friends, Stephanie and Bee to find Marge’s killer and clear Cass’s name.

I’m not usually drawn to paranormal mysteries and might not have read this book due to the crystal ball and tarot cards on the cover, not to mention the series title, A Bay Island Psychic Mystery. However, I am glad that I did read this book. The book is fun, well written and entertaining. Lena Gregory does a nice job pacing the book and creates interesting characters that are unique and relatable. If you aren’t on a self-imposed reading restriction, you’ll find the book is a fast, enjoyable read.
