I’m so excited that book #6 in my Mystery Bookshop Mystery Series, A Tourist’s Guide to Murder, will be released on January 26, 2021. Readers will get to spend time with Sam, Nana Jo, and the Girls from the retirement village, but there are also several surprises that happen in this book and I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I will only mention a couple of things that are different about this book.
One of the things that’s different about this book, is it’s the first one that takes place away from North Harbor, Michigan. Sure, technically the murder in Bookmarked for Murder, which happened on a bus trip, could be considered away from North Harbor. However, it could be argued that they were en route to Michigan and all of the sleuthing happened in the U.S. In A Tourist’s Guide to Murder, the murders and sleuthing all take place in England. Sam makes a trip to England to research her next British historic cozy mystery and decides the best way to see all of the spots that are important to a mystery lover can best be seen, by taking a Mystery Lovers Tour of England. When the tour owner and another tourist die under mysterious circumstances, Sam, and the girls put their skills to the test to figure out whodunit. But, can Sam and the girls solve a murder in another country?
When the Mystery Bookshop series first started, readers learned that Samantha Washington had two dreams. She and her late husband, Leon, dreamed of one day quitting their jobs and opening a bookshop that specialized in mysteries. After Leon’s death, Sam realizes life is too short, not to follow her dreams. So, she quits her job and opens the mystery bookshop. But, in addition to owning a mystery bookshop, Samantha Washington also dreamed of writing British historic cozy mysteries. She starts writing to fill the loneliness after Leon’s death. Thanks to the love, support, and the push she receives from Nana Jo and her friends from the retirement village (not to mention Ruby Mae’s extensive extended family), she writes several books and gets an agent. However, getting published isn’t an easy task. But, this long-awaited dream is finally about to be realized when Sam gets her first book contract. It’s official, she’s an author. So, research for her British historic cozy takes on new meaning for her as she follows in the footsteps of some of her favorite mystery authors, including Dame Agatha Christie.
If you want to know what other surprises lie in store for Sam, Nana Jo, Dorothy, Irma, and Ruby Mae, then you’ll need to pick up a copy of A Tourist’s Guide to Murder.
While visiting the land of Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes, bookstore owner and amateur sleuth Samantha Washington finds herself on a tragical mystery tour . . .
Sam joins Nana Jo and her Shady Acres Retirement Village friends Irma, Dorothy, and Ruby Mae on a weeklong trip to London, England, to experience the Peabody Mystery Lovers Tour. The chance to see the sights and walk the streets that inspired Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle is a dream come true for Sam—and a perfect way to celebrate her new publishing contract as a mystery author.
But between visits to Jack the Ripper’s Whitechapel district and 221B Baker Street, Major Horace Peabody is found dead, supposedly of natural causes. Despite his employer’s unfortunate demise, the tour guide insists on keeping calm and carrying on—until another tourist on their trip also dies under mysterious circumstances. Now it’s up to Sam and the Shady Acres ladies to mix and mingle among their fellow mystery lovers, find a motive, and turn up a murderer . . .
